At Båden, we’re not just colleagues. We’ve become a little extended family – one that laughs and cries, dances and sings, and generally just has a great time together.
From the morning greetings to the team spirit that kicks in when things get busy – it’s something we take pride in, and we hope it’s something you feel when you visit. OUR STORY
Nicholas and Michelle met behind the counter. First as coworkers, then as a couple – and today as both life partners and café owners.
After many years in the service industry, sharing everything from early morning coffees and hectic weekend shifts to big dreams and deep laughter, they decided to create something of their own. When their former café – also in Christianshavn – had to close, they faced a choice: Find something new or build it themselves. They chose the latter.
With three old train carriages from Tivoli’s Christmas market and a love for all things quirky, colorful, and cozy, they created Båden – a place that feels exactly like them: vibrant, heartfelt, and a little funky. They even celebrated their own wedding here. And ever since, the café has been a setting for both everyday moments and life’s big celebrations.
Today, Nicholas and Michelle not only share a life, but a passion for creating a space where everyone feels at home.
And you can feel it in the coffee and in the warm atmosphere that greets you the moment you step inside.

UNSUSUAL HOURS
Our opening hours are a little out of the ordinary,
but we’ve been overwhelmed by how warmly our guests have embraced our vision of a café built around real work–life balance.
A big part of our dream was to create a space where both guests and staff thrive, and to build a work life for ourselves with enough room to spend time with our family, to rest, and to recharge.
We’re deeply grateful for the support we’ve felt since day one. It’s clear to us that our guests help shape the sense of community that makes Båden what it is. And we hope we get to keep running this café by the canal for many years to come.
